Well march was a busy month 2 interesting events :

Party Beta

Co organized by Peru Beta, Cosolig and Ubuntu Peru. Hosted on Huaral, town 2 hours outside Lima. Really cool event. We have talks about Ubuntu, DSL, WordPress, Web developing.  Cosolig guys did a street demo

Linux Week 2009

Hosted on Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP), organized by Linux -IDES (PUCP linux users). Ubuntu Peru was invited during Community Day. Where we share with other communities and general public, as a result we agreed to create a Peruvian Community Planet so newbies can go and read whats new on every community web (news, events, meetings, etc), to see  the planet click here.

Ubuntu Tip of the Day: Nautilus Resize & Rotate functions

Well, surfing the net I found this tip to add resize & rotate image functions to nautilus

1.- Open a Terminal

accessories> Terminal or Terminator

2.- Type:

sudo apt-get install nautilus-image-converter

3.- Restart Gnome

CTRL + ALT +Backspace

4.- Log in and go to any image folder

5.- Right Click on the image and you wil find to new options

Rotate Image

Resize Image

UNMSM migrating to Ubuntu

Hello Planet Ubuntu,

Its been a busy and exciting October and November so far.

October 24.

San Marcos University (UNMSM)’s Fluid Mechanics Faculty invite Ubuntu Peru representative to give a talk about Ubuntu , because they are fully migrating to GNU/Linux distro in this case Ubuntu. The students also research applications for their flied, I was amaze to know that this applications only run an gave exact results on GNU/Linux.

Such applications are use for wind, water, heat, structures simulations in contact with fluids

October 31

So a week later were invited to Industrial Engineery Faculty to give a FLOSS introduction also gave a demostration of Ubuntu on our laptops and solve lots of questions about avantages of using a GNU/Linux distro.

We invited a Dokeos Representative, Yannick Warnier to show them an example of a good and professional FLOSS application, that is develop on using ubuntu

Ubuntu Day – Meeting Intrepid Ibex : Also detailed post soon

Inteprid Ibex Alpha 6 impresions.

As I did with hardy alpha 6 , i downloaded the iso un Sunday, willing to tested on a vmachine.

But on Monday I changed my mind , decided to install it on my laptop (also have a little talk with nxvl)

Here are my impresions about the all process

Boot & Installation

• Cd boot as spected
• Properly displayed the menu
• Direct intallation never boot
• Live Session worked fine
• Installation from live was ok (like the new partition graphics)

Installation process reported no problem

Log in &  hardware Configuratión

• GDM worked
• my display resolution was 800×600 (I have a Nvidia chipset)
• Sound worked
• USB ports worked
• Keyboard worked except from some fn keys (they worked good on hardy)
• Touchpad a little slow
• Integrated Webcam worked (checked with Gnome cheese)
• Jockey crash, couldn’t test atheros driver provided for it

For my nvidia chipset configuration I traid EnvyNG but it never opened, i manually download the driver and installed after i return with a better resolution.

Customization & Software

• Great look
• New human Theme Rocks!
• Pidgin works fine
• OpenOffice 2.4 is quite fast now (waiting ooo 3)
• Rhythmbox works very
• Terminator didn’t open
• The new network configuration interfase works fine but can be a little confuse

here is my Desktop

To Do.

• Test sound recording
• Test LiveUSB from live session
• Test Suspend and Hibernate
• Test DVD playback
• Tray to make work the applications that didn’t work

So far Intrepid is rocking!!
