On last friday, finally a got to buy a notebook (laptop) I call it Ghanima (from Frank Herbert’s Dune Novel) [1]

She is a Compaq Presario F754
Specs:
- AMD Semprom 3600+
- 1Gb RAM
- 120Gb HD
- Nvidia Graphics
- Integrated Webcam
- Black Elegant Case
- No Windows Vista sticker on it, from factory
The Salesman also included a Logitech V220 Cordless mouse , 4Gb Kingston flash drive and a Backpak for it.
The first thing that I did was brand it with ubuntu sticker and then install Hardy, It work well except by the Nvidia Driver and Wireless (Atheros). Envy (thanks Alberto Milone) make a really got job finding out the perfect driver for my Nivida graphics and ndiswrapper (thanks ndiswrapper team)help me with the Wireless.
Well After a couple of days i finally customized like i want
see the results
[Theme: Murrina Dark]
She will be my companion on all events to come
[1]Ghanima means in Fremen tongue : “something acquired in battle”. I like it because I really battle a lot for it

Nice wallpaper…
Can I find the wallpaper in the internet?
Where do you have it from?

Ghanima is actually an Arabic word and is found in the Quran. The words true meaning appears to be very similar as Herbert used it. I am a Dune fan as well and only recently made the connection as to how much of Herbert’s Dune universe comes from Arabic/Islamic sources.

Hola, tenemos la misma laptop.
Instalé Ubuntu 8.04 (amd64) y aunque logré instalar la tarjeta inalámbrica gracias a ndiswrapper, esta se desactiva cada vez que reinicio el sistema. Incluso es realmente dificil establecer una conexión.
Presumo que tú instalaste Ubuntu 8.04 (i386), si es así, ¿podrías contarme tu experiencia con la escurridiza tarjeta?.

Why do I keep reading this post over and over again? I believe there is something wrong with the feed present on planet.ubuntu.com.

Nice! Congrats for the new Ubuntu machine…
p.s.:
And “ġanīmat” means as you say “something acquired in battle”.
Ghanima is actually an Arabic originated word (dated back to 14th century). Derived from “ġanam” which means commodity, estate or “sheep”
